Therapy and Skill Building for Children, Teens, & Adults
Brittany LaFleur, LCPC
I began practicing in 2014 – first as a licensed school counselor and then moved into private practice as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). Before practicing I received a bachelors from the University of Maryland and my Masters in Counseling from Johns Hopkins University. I am a Nationally Board Certified Counselor, as well as a member of the American Counseling Association. I have a deep passion for aiding individuals in their journey towards becoming their best selves, which is why I started Your Best Self therapeutic services in 2018.
I believe in creating a safe and confidential space for clients to explore their own inner worlds, as well as providing guidance to healthy coping and life skills. I work with clients suffering from a range of issues, including: current or past trauma(s), anxiety, adjustment disorder, ADHD, depression and identity exploration (i.e. gender and sexuality exploration). I have a compassionate, yet direct, style and utilize a combination of traditional talk therapy, mindfulness and the latest research in neuroscience.
I have extensive experience working with children and teens – both in a school and the private practice setting. I am a big proponent of comprehensive counseling and encourage the active participation of parents, teachers and other important role models in the treatment process. I am a trained and registered play therapist, which helps children feel more comfortable in the therapeutic setting, as well as gives them the means to express thoughts and feelings they do not yet have the language for. I am also a certified child & adolescent trauma therapist, giving me a specialized skill set to work with children who are suffering from an array of traumatic experiences- whether it be bullying, divorce, witnessing domestic violence, sexual abuse or physical abuse.
Through my work with children, I found that many parents will often find help for their child, leaving their own emotions and needs unaddressed. I therefore began to work with parents who are overwhelmed by the everyday challenges of parenting, the mental health of their children, family/life changes and unaddressed past traumas that are now resurfacing. I have helped numerous parents discover not only their best selves, but their best parenting selves as well – leading to a family unit that functions more peacefully and cohesively than ever before.
I look forward to hearing your story and being a part of your journey
